10 Simple DIY Car Upgrades

Your car is where you can spend what feels like half of your day — if not more. Why are you riding around in a car without some of the upgrades you’re desperately wanting? Most likely because those upgrades are expensive.

Here are 10 budget-friendly ways you can revamp your car that you can do all your own:

1.  Light The Way

Your car’s lights don’t have to only a safety purpose, they also can have a personal style attached to them. With your upgraded HID4 or LED bulbs you can add a variety of headlight covers, vinyl wraps or film. You can even spread some love to your tail-lights and add some colored bulbs in there too!

2. Stereo System

From a classic in-dash car stereo, to a complete trunk explosion full of speakers and subwoofers. You can definitely upgrade your sound system. You’ll be able to listen (and so will everyone else) to your favorite music without having to break the bank to do it.

3. Back It Up Safely

Poor backing techniques are to blame for 1 out of every 4 vehicle accidents according to the National Safety Council. Remove the stress of backing up, stretching to see over the back seat, reaching around to try and see beyond both sides of the trunk and install a wireless car camera. The best part? You don’t have to pay a pricey mechanic to do it because it’s that simple to install yourself. No more running over curbs, hitting mailboxes or being terrified you’re going to hit something or someone!

4. Added Luxury For A Penny

Want to protect your seats from friends, kids, or neighbors who won’t stop nagging you for a ride? No problem! Car seat covers are an easy way to protect your car and increase the life of your seats without you having to shell out a ton of cash in the process.

If you live in a place where the climate can be unbearable sometimes, you can also find seat covers with warmers or cooling technology in them to keep you comfortable, too. Add a personal touch to your car as well by adding a cover to your steering wheel or if you have a Jeep you can get creative with the trademark back spare tire covers.

5. Bring In The Bling

If you’re missing bling or sparkle on your ride, no worries — there’s tons of options. Add some bling to your car’s insignia, shifter, or even on your tires.

6. Keep It Lit

The lights on the inside of your car need an upgrade, too! From an easy dome light to a cool interior LED lighting kit you can constantly change what the inside of your vehicle without breaking the bank.

7. Mirror

Whether it’s for safety reasons or another chance to add some bling or a personal touch, an uncomplicated upgrade is your rear view mirror. Add in a panoramic mirror or fun, cool accessories, the choice is completely up to you!

8. Wipe Away Your Worries

Sometimes you want to add some color to your car and your budget simply won’t allow you to paint the entire car. A solution you can do right now to add at least some you might not have thought of is your windshield wipers. Colored wiper blades are available at every auto parts shop and can be delivered from bigger department stores in a day or two. They come in every color you can think of and since they’re so cheap, you can change them out as often as you’d like.

9. Decorate With Car Decals

Another simple and noncommittal relationship you can have in your life is the beloved car decal. There is literally something for everyone. Whether you want cutesy, manly, snarky or supporting your favorite brand or cause, you will be able to find exactly what you want or have it made to your liking.

10. License Plate

License plate frames and covers are fine. Fine, traditional and boring, but completely okay if that’s what you want to do. Something far superior the tech industry has blessed us with is the digital bumper sticker. A digital bumper sticker is a sassy and tech savvy way to keep the guy riding your tail entertained while telling him to back off simultaneously. Plus, you can update it as often as you want. There’s even emojis you can put on your back window which are voice-controlled and are updated by an app on your phone!

Have Fun With It!

Modifications to your car range from inexpensive to wallet-thinning. On top of that, you could be taking a legal risk you don’t first check your local laws before making changes to your vehicle. Be sure to check your potential repercussions so you can save yourself money down the road and keep your ride just the way you want it.

Remember, it’s your car and should be an expression of your personality, so be sure to have fun with it! Be sure to post some of your before and after pictures so we can see the transformation of your car!
